Housebreaking Puppies
Dogs, like all other animals have to relieve themselves and will do where ever they deem appropriate unless told otherwise.
Housebreaking puppies is part of the training process that you will have to go through when you first introduce a puppy to your household. The housebreaking part can be strenuous but remember that you must have patience and once you have that you will prevail.
Any puppy will not want to relieve himself in his bed or 'nest' he would much rather do that outside of the nest. Once they age about three weeks old they will begin looking for suitable spots. Your responsibility once you take your puppy home is to help him find a suitable spot outside your home.
When potty training puppies you must understand that they are going through a rather fast process of physical change. Their bodies are maturing and growing. Not only that but your puppy has also just been taken from his mother and is getting used to a new life.

To start the housebreaking puppy process it is advisable to begin by restricting him to a small room in the house. In this room you should put some old newspaper and use this as the 'toilet'.
Confine your puppy to this room and at certain times of the day try and get him to use the paper to 'relieve' himself.
The following times are the best:
1. After each feeding, playing, exercise, excitement
2. Immediately upon waking
3. First thing in the morning
4. Last thing at night
5. Once every hour
You should wait with him until he has relieved himself and you can encourage him by saying 'go', 'potty' or even 'wee-wee'. It's up to you.
As soon as your puppy uses the designated spot you should praise him. This is will give him a clear indication that he has pleased you and that he should do the same again.
If you want to start by getting your dog outside then a similar approach is needed. Basically walk your dog to an area that is close by that he can use and wait until he does something. Once again urge your dog on and when he complies shower him with praise.
Housebreaking Puppies is a great way of bonding and although there will be the odd 'stinker', you will succeed! Just remember to have patience and to continue training your puppy until he has mastered all the necessary training procedures.
