Dog Obedience Training should begin when your pup is still young.  As mentioned previously, puppies are able to absorb lots of new information at a much faster rate than adult dogs.  They therefore respond better.

This does not mean that you cannot obedience train an adult dog.  You can, it just might take longer. 

If you have an adult dog that is misbehaving you must teach him some basic commands in order to incorporate discipline.  This kind of training will make dogs realize that certain behaviours are not allowed. When obedience training is introduced, the dog will, in turn, be able to respond with the right behaviour.

Dog obedience training will establish a foundation from which you and your dog can learn to effectively relate to one another. Obedience training creates a common language for you and your dog.

A dog with obedience training will understand your commands and will respond accordingly. Many untrained dogs will try and please their owners to no avail and get frustrated and upset in the process. Trained dogs acknowledge their role in the family and will form very strong bonds with family members who take lead roles in their training.

Fulfilling your dogs basic needs are important. All dogs need sufficient exercise, social interaction, security and satisfaction. By using obedience training you will give your dog a number of jobs to do. Dogs that traditionally have been used for certain jobs like hunting or fishing can get frustrated and the obedience training can redirect some of the mental energy to new found activities.

Dog obedience training will make your pup a more enjoyable companion.  While conducting your dog obedience training, be sure you use a lot of praise or treats to show your dog he is doing what you want.  Use correction for the incorrect behavior, but don't punish.  Be patient at all times and use consistence to get the desired behavior.

When carrying out dog obedience training, do it in a quiet place where you dog won't be distracted from what you are teaching.
